Checklist and preparation for fluorescein angiography


Checklist and preparation for fluorescein angiography:

1. Informed consent.

2. Inform the patient about fluorescein angiography. Obtain verbal or written informed consent.

3. Dilate patient pupil.

4. Prepare fluorescein solution, vein needle, and syringe.

5. Prepare fundus camera:
a-clean front lens.
b-load color and black-and-white film into two camera backs.
c-focus eyepiece crosshairs.

6. Take identification photograph, which includes the patient name, the date, and other data (number of fluorescein angiogiogram, patient vision of right and left eye, referring physician and so forth)

7. Position the patient for alignment,focus,and comfort.



8. Align and focus camera.

9. Complete color photography.

10. Switch to camera with black-and-white film for fluorescein photography.

11. Take red free photographs.

12. Insert vein needle.

13. Simultaneously start timer from zero and inject fluorescein dye.

14.Take preinjection color photographs,shoot at exact start of injection as timer is turned on and shoot second shoot at exact finish of injection(length of injection is automatically recorded)

15. Start fluorescein photograph 8 seconds after start of injection in young patients and after 12 seconds in older patients.

16. Follow fluorescein angiography plan.

17. When photography is done, reassure the patient that all went well and remind him or her that the urine will be discolored for aday or so. Have patient wait an additional 20 minutes for observation for possible reactions to fluorescein.
